June 2003
- June 7: Martha is gone. After doing so good over the last days she was doing so badly today. It was even worse then before (May 28). I cannot describe how sad I am. Update: she had liver cancer.
- June 1: Martha is doing better. She started again to eat pellets on her own, but I need to continue handfeeding her, so she keeps her weight. Her appearance is so much better, she is alert, and eats hay without extra motivation. She also drinks on her own. I hope her well being will be stable.
- May 30: Martha was recovering somewhat yesterday. Although I fed her, she still lost weight. Seems she didn't process the food very well. Some improvements today though. Back to the vet to get a second opinion. She is now on Prednisol, hoping it will improve her. She is doing better and all the abdominal fluids are gone.
- May 28: I thought Martha won't survive the day. After she did so well yesterday, she dropped down dramatically over night. She lost weight, was sunken in and dehydrated while her abdomen was full of fluids. The vet said her body is shutting down. She got subcue fluids and I went home with her.
- May 27: Martha is doing better. She started eating and drinking on her own now. I still have to watch her and hand feed when she doesn't eat enough on her own. Let's hope she is pulling through now.
- May 20: Back to the vet again. Martha is not feeling right. She just sits there with closed eyes and her hair standing up. My concern is that the infection is coming back. She is now on Septra. She really likes it and giving her the meds is no problem. She is supposed to stay on it for a week. If she is doing better we'll repeat the blood panel to see if that improved also. Let's hope for the best.
- May 17: After taking Martha off the Baytril she seems to do better. She is more active and started eating again. The vet called and told me that her liver enzymes are too high and the leucocytes are a bit low. I need to watch her closely. If everythig goes well the next blood test will be in the beginning of June.
- May 15: Back to the vet again. After she ate fine alone it went downhill again. I didn't want her to stay on the Baytril anymore. The vet agreed but wanted a blood panel.
- May 5: Martha has an E. coli infection, but the Baytril seems to work.
- May 3: Back to the vet. For one thing the sutures had to be removed. The other thing is thaat she is not feeling so well. She is getting Baytril now.
- On the 23rd Martha had to have surgery. She had ovarian cysts in the size of a racket ball. Everything went well!
- Patty and Luna moved in on Jan 25th. Two rescue piggers from Cavy Spirit.
- On Jan 4th Thelma moved on to the Rainbowland. No treatment helped. We are all so sad.
- Thelma can't eat anymore. She has arthrosis in her jaw. Of all the places this is the worst.
- Martha is fit again... after 4 weeks of treatment with antibiotics.
- Martha has a severe infection. I have no idea where she got that from. Louise and Thelma are fine (knock on wood)
