Martha was my first rescue pig (well the 2nd when I count Mops). Her mother was rescued together with about 30 other
pigs from some rather unfriendly conditions. Martha was the product of not understood
guinea pig behavior.
I saw Martha the first time when I brought Spotty back. My god, she was so sweet. I really never wanted a pig with such red eyes, but after a couple of minutes I was hooked. I had to wait a couple more weeks until she was old enough to be separated from her mother. I could hardly wait until she came. When she was finally there, she immediately took over. She was outgoing and curious from the very first moment. Celine adopted her very nicely.
Martha was THE star here. She was so incredibly cute. She came when I call her, she was very affectionate and and and... Bottomline: she was highly adorable (and she knew that!). She was actually the one who owns me, not the other way around.
Martha went through some severe things when she was very young. At the age of about 8 weeks she had an abscess which had to be removed. Directly after the abscess was healed it became apparent that she had a bladderstone. Again: surgery with sedation. Luckily, she survived everything and recovered very well. I am also very luck that this bladder stone was the only occurence. Later on (April 2003) she had huge ovarian cysts that had to be removed. Unfortunately she could not recover. As it turned out she had liver cancer. We won't forget her!
