Patty is also a rescue pig from Cavyspirit. She moved in with Luna on January 25, 2003.
Patty is one of the Hollister moms. She had to endure quite some misery in her life. She was highly pregnant when she was rescued with a bunch of other pigs (her five babies were born July 23, 2002 and one of her daughters lives in the house of Patty's first foster mom). But Patty, like all the other poor Hollister pigs, was not only dirty, starved and pregnant, she also had lice, mites and a bumble foot. Thanks to her foster mom, Patty is in very good condition now. Her foot is completely healed, and she is definitively not starved anymore :-). She is a lively pig that loves to eat. Her appetite is unbelievable, and she tries everything that seems edible to her.
Patty is, probably due to her upbringing, a rather skittish pig. She does not like to be touched. She comes and checks out my hands if I have some food for her and she also will take food out of my hand, but she still doesn't like to be touched.
After Martha's death, Patty became the alpha pig, something that was a big thorn in Luna's eye. Luna repeatedly tried to take over leadership. Since both pig did not shy away from a fight, I could see the results of those quibbles in form of bleeding lips. When Lilo moved in, Luna seized the moment and took over. Everything is peaceful ever since.
Sad Update: Patty left us on April 29, 2006. During her last two weeks her health deteriorated rapidly. Her heart was worse, she had bad arthritis in her back, bladderstones, and her feet were sore. She then decided she had enough and refused food. At this point I accepted her way of telling me to let go. Fare well, my sweet Patty...
