This page is for Pummel, one of the sweetest guinea pigs one can imagine! We got her when
she was 6 weeks old and she was so little. We wanted to name her Willie, but after we
found out that she was a female, that wasn't possible anymore.
First we kept her only in the cage, since everything was so new for her, but after a few days she became very lethargic and I changed the living room into a pig friendly room :-). From now on she could go out of the cage as soon as one of us was at home. She loved that. She walked around and inspected everything. Since she was alone for a half year she became very unafraid and tame. She liked to sit or lay on the arm (the left forearm! not the right one), she could stay there for hours. We carried her around and she was always very relaxed, she trusted us. The best thing was that she came alone on the arm, we didn't have to catch her. Sometimes, when she wanted to be picked up, she sat in the middle of the room and squealed loud, in a very special way. Pummel also was very curious and had to know everything.
After a half year we felt sort of guilty that she was alone during the day and we got a second cavy: Pauline. We were excited about Pauline, but in the beginning Pummel was not. Pauline became very sick and after she reconciled the two pigs got along very well.
Pummel had two other friends she lived with. After Pauline passed away Mops came into our live. He was a neutered male and lived up well to his name. Mops stands also for something big :-). He was huge and voracious. I believe Pummel was a little afraid of him in the beginning, plus she had to defend everything. With short words: the first night was loud! The next morning they got along well. Quite amazing.
After Mops went over the rainbow bridge Tiffany was the last mate for Pummel. She was the most beautiful little piggy: a red satin.
The day Pummel went over the rainbow bridge was a very sad day. But she died at home on my friends arm. I believe that Pummel had a very good and free life and now she can run around in guinea pig haven where there is never a shortage of cucumber...
