Ramona was the fifth pig that was entered to the herd. She is a rescue from the Orange County Cavy Haven.
Ramona is a friendly guinea pig. She loves to eat, preferably greens, is rather shy, and gets along just great with the other four ladies. Integrating her into the herd was really a breeze. A couple "arguments" and everything was set. After only one week the five girls were a unit, like they would have lived together their entire lives.
Ramona's hair will grow quite long and has to be cut on a regular basis. She is very patient with me and my hair dressing skills.
Ramona has some problems with her metabolism. She produces struvite crystals which have the tendency to attach to the bladderwall and cause bladder infections. Vitamin C intake will reduce the crystals dramatically but at the expense of causing calcium carbonat crystals. The latter tend to build up into bladder stones. One has to choose between two evils.
In addition to her bladder problems, she also has now an enlarged heart. Because of this she is on heart medication, which seems to work fine for her.
